Everett (Sonny) Long, 86, of Pine Bluff, died Friday, January 21, 2022. He was born August 17, 1935, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, and was the beloved son of Everett C. Long and Elda Lisenbey Westerman. He was honorably discharged after serving in the United States Army.
In his youth, he was a regular at Pine Bluff Speedway, where he often won his races. In 1956, he won the State Stock Car Championship trophy.
Sonny was a truck driver by profession. He worked at Ben Pearson for several years, transporting cotton pickers across the United States. Then he opened Everett Long Trucking and ran it successfully until his health forced him to retire.
He previously attended South Pinewood Baptist Church.
Before him in death were his parents, his sisters, Joyce Cotton and Betty Coker, and a nephew, Bobby Cotton.
Sonny is survived by his sister, Ida Mae Edmonds; his daughter, Debbie Goldman (Robert Pennington); grandchildren, Jared James and Kaylee Goldman; and a number of nieces and nephews whom he loved.
Visitation with the family will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 27, 2022 at the Robinson and Fuller White Hall Funeral Chapel, followed by a celebration of his life at 2:00 p.m. A private burial will take place at a later date. at Memorial Park Cemetery.
