Stephen D. Sobecki, 67, of Point Place, died on January 3, 2022 at home surrounded by his loving family. Stephen was born in Toledo on June 30, 1954 to Donald and Jacqueline (Urbanowski) Sobecki. He attended St. John the Baptist Elementary School and played football for the Shoreland Firebirds. Stephen played hockey for Whitmer High School, where he graduated in 1973. He was a union plumber for Northwest Ohio Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 50 until his retirement in 2018. Stephen enjoyed pheasant hunting and rabbits with his father. He loved watching NASCAR and Indianapolis 500, but his real passion was snowmobiling in northern Michigan. Stephen’s favorite football teams were Ohio State and Notre Dame.
Survivor are his loving companion, Amada Mirta Melendez; and his beloved sisters, Janis (Ken) Wiezbenski and Tricia Sobecki; as well as many cousins aunts and friends. His parents predeceased him in death.
The Celebration of Stephen’s Life will be held on Thursday, January 6, 2022 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Urbanski Funeral Home, a home of the celebration of life, 5055 Secor Rd., Toledo, Ohio. The funeral will begin Friday at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church, 5153 North Summit St., Toledo, Ohio, where the funeral mass will begin at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Toledo, Ohio. The family would like to thank the University of Michigan Cancer Center where he was treated, as well as all the family and friends who helped with his care during his last days.
