Ms Betty Runelle Hurst Steadman, 93, of Dalton, Georgia, died on Saturday January 8, 2022 after a year of ill health. At the time, she was residing at the Regency Park Health and Rehab Center.
She was born in Oliver, Georgia on December 17, 1928 to Thomas Hurst and Rozzie Hodges Hurst. She graduated as a registered nurse from Ga. Baptist Nursing School in Atlanta and has worked in nursing her entire career, with the exception of her tenure as Director of the Whitfield County Parent / Child Center during the last part of his career.
While working, she also raised six children. He was a person of deep faith and still very active in the church. His sincere compassion for those who were less fortunate in life was a manifestation of his conviction to lead a Christ-centered life. She was fortunate enough to have a beautiful voice and often sang solos as part of church service while married to her pastor husband. Her main zest for life was her children, and she remained close to them and their families. She loved to organize family reunions at her home during vacations and other special occasions and was truly the center of her family. She leaves her children with many happy memories of the time she spent with them – as young people and adults. She also enjoyed visiting her siblings and their families in Savannah, Georgia.
Ms. Steadman was predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Rozzie Hurst; his stepmother, Mrs. Elizabeth Hurst; her beloved grandmother who helped her raise her after her mother died; her four sisters and brother, Mrs. Cynthia Horne, Mrs. Irma McCormick, Mrs. Gladys Roach, Mrs. Eunice Cavannah and Mr. Theodore Hurst; one son, Timothy Hurst Steadman; and a grandson, Adam Steadman.
She is survived by her five other children, Mrs. Janice Jones (Phillip) of Milledgeville, Ga., Mr. Wayne Steadman, Jr of Riviera Beach, FL, Mr. Warren Steadman (Patricia) of Dalton, Ga., Mr. Ed Steadman (Debbie) from Ontario, Oregon, and Mr. Mike Steadman (Sherrie) from Dalton. Other survivors include many grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.
Betty’s funeral will be private.
Interment will take place at United Memorial Gardens.
