The FHSAA released its second batch of high school boys’ and girls’ basketball rankings on Tuesday as the season begins to take shape.

The ranking takes into account program records and the strength of the schedule of games played and reflects results up to the morning of January 11.

Here are our top three takeaways from the girls’ and boys’ rankings:

Who stands up?

The First Baptist boys have recently picked up wins over Fort Myers, Napoli and Canterbury, and the Lions have skipped several teams, close to cracking the top 100 at No. 106.

Barron Collier entered the top 100 after beating Community School last week, but the side have since suffered a 48-45 loss to Canterbury on Tuesday. Still, that shouldn’t affect them too much given the strength of their schedule.

The South Fort Myers girls improved their position after a hard-fought win over Fort Myers last Friday followed by a draw from Cape Coral on Monday.

Community School went 3-0 against Naples, Seacrest Country Day and Gateway to see their rankings rise.

Barron Collier also moved up a few spots after picking up wins over Palmetto Ridge and LaBelle.

Who fall ?

The loss to First Baptist hurt the Canterbury boys, but a win on Tuesday against Barron Collier should help the team bounce back in the next standings. Immokalee and South Fort Myers also slipped, while Gateway and Naples are now outside the top 10 local teams.

On the girls side, the Green Wave dropped out of the top 100 following the loss to South Fort Myers. A loss to the Wolfpack also saw Cape Coral drop from 176 to 187, while Mariner and Gateway Charter are no longer among the top 10 teams in the region.

Who debuted in the top 10?

The Golden Gate boys, on a six-game winning streak, have moved into the top 10 – the Titans are now the sixth-highest ranked team with 233.

The Community School also had a good week to crack the list of top teams.

The women’s teams that raised their prospects were Napoli and Seacrest.
